Soft Edges

I try to calm my nerves as I look back and forth between Derrick and Priya. I knew that he and Dominik were cool, but in my heart I was not ready to see him again. And knowing that Priya is the wife of Fletcher Yahim. His second wife’s presence is causing me more anxiety than it should. I should be relieved to know that the position has been filled, however after speaking to the young woman and speaking life over her, unease ripples thorough me like the pebbles Dominik and I skipped on the lake. I clear my throat to cut through the tension.

“Have ya’ll eaten? They’re serving breakfast now.”

“Oh, yes. I’m starved. Let’s go.” Derrick’s beautiful bride with her light caramel skin, high wrapped hair, and long cable knit dress is a ball of energy and joy. I’m so grateful for that right now. We move out the door. Dominik stops Priya and grabs her darling baby girl before she moves down the stairs.

“Thank you.” Priya’s smile is sad around the edges. She picks her way down the steps with her diaper bag on one shoulder. Derrick and Kim chat happily in front of Priya. I follow behind her and Dominik follows behind all of us. He bounces and plays contentedly with the baby even after we make it to the bottom of the steps. The young child is completely enamored with Dominik. She plays with his beard, ears, and nose. He nips at her small hands and tickles her belly. I’m so obsessed with the scene of him with this child, just as I was last night.

Dominik is a complete natural with children. I can’t help but wonder if he has any children. If he does, would he want more. Would he want them with me? The thought of having a child with this man or even the practice of having a child with this sexy man warms me. It takes a few seconds for me to brush off the lustful thoughts. I have to pray—again— for forgiveness, repentance, and the strength to control the reactions of my wanton body.

His touch is like a flame consuming everything in hits path. His control and dominance makes me want to submit as much as it makes me want to rebel and see what his response would be. Would he reprimand me? Kiss me harder? Do something more…delicious? I shake my head slightly banishing the thoughts.

I need to spend so much more time in prayer and scripture today to get my mind right about this glass of temptation. I desire to know if he is truly for me. It’s dangerous enough to have these feelings if he is meant for me. How much more dangerous are these emotions if he is not. I don’t know if my heart, mind or emotions would survive if this thing ended at the close of Sukkot. We make it to the dining hall and I show the AE crew around.
